Day 1: Business Strategy Overview
Aim:
- To explore the concept of strategy and business planning and the practical tools currently available to help graduates to fulfill their role
You will look at the recent developments in strategic planning in the transport sector though illustrative case studies and consider how they can apply to Arriva.
Learning objectives:
By the end of the session delegates will be able to:
- Analyse a company’s current strategic position using the strategic thinking toolkit
- Understand how strategies are evaluated and developed
- Understand basic strategic planning tools
- Put together a strategic plan
Day 2: Financial Awareness
Aim:
- To provide graduates with the form, content and terminology of basic Financial Statements
- To enable graduates to understand a set of financial statements
Learning objectives:
By the end of the session delegates will be able to:
- Understand basic financial terminology
- Understand how money works in a business and how it is accounted for
- Understand basic interpretation of accounts including EPS
- Understand Investment Appraisal
- Understand hedging
Day 3: The Arriva Business Game
Learning objectives:
By the end of the session delegates will be able to:
- Have run a mock business unit with a small team of colleagues
- Have allocated resources to their business to achieve maximum performance
- Have marketed Arriva’s commercial products and services to customers competitively against other teams
- Have prepared Profit & Loss Accounts, Balance Sheets & Cash Flows to record their performance
- Have undertaken simple analysis of their own position using their accounts
- Be confident in communicating with each other using simple financial terminology
